Have any of you guys used this exact dye in a hybrid vehicle with either an electric ac compressor or a dual-mode ac compressor? Heck, the green dye we use is often visible without the uv. Got one similar to this for detecting fluorescent dye. Hybrids with electric or dual-mode ac compressors do not use the same oils and dyes as other vehicles have traditionally used. AC systems in many hybrids have some significant differences and requirements, versus older non-hybrid vehicles.

Just because hybrids and non-hybrids both use Ra does NOT necessarily mean that the dyes and oils for a Cavalier are fully compatible with a Civic Hybrid, for example. In any case, I appreciate the comments so far. I would contact the manufacturer to verify it is non-conductive. Now this is a rare occurrence, but it does happen.

And hybrids use a different, non-conductive refrigerant oil than other cars. I am aware that ac oils for hybrids are apparently some variation of ester, but not the same generic ester oil of 20 years ago. The non-conductive thing is what I was worried about. I think I will try to talk to uview, when I have some time. I realize the dye takes time to circulate through the system and eventually leak out and become visible.

Kind of disappointing, actually. The new refrigerant has no link to hybrids. And the dye to be used is determined by the oil in the system. I sent uview an email, asking them for clarification, as to WHY their dye is supposedly hybrid-compatible. And I know that PAG oil is not to be used in hybrid ac systems.

I also asked if their oil is electrically non-conductive, as SteveC76 suggested. I may call them up. So I may give up on the idea of buying that product, in the end. All of them claimed to be the best thing since sliced bread, and most of them left quite a bit to be desired. I appreciate all the comments so far. Sniffers are quite disappointing. If refrigerant is leaking fast enough to ding a sniffer it usually leaves an oily patch visible without the die.Warning: Cancer and reproductive harm - www.

The oils used in these compressors have high dielectric non-conductive properties.

If a different type of oil somehow makes its way into one of these compressors, and if the insulation on the windings has become damaged or compromised, a variety of problems may occur.

How to Add Refrigerant to a 2010-2015 Toyota Prius

A person may receive an electric shock if they touch the compressor, engine, etc. Once a leak is detected, the control system will shut down the compressor. As drastic as it may seem, in service bulletins, some hybrid vehicle manufacturers state that all of the refrigeration system components must be replaced if oil cross contamination has occurred.

Some shop equipment may introduce an unacceptable level of oil contamination if used to charge refrigerant into a hybrid vehicle with an electric motor driven compressor. These RRR machines are designed to prevent a harmful amount of oil from mixing with the refrigerant during charging.

JH machines also do not contain oil injection capability, and this prevents the possibility of any type of oil being dispensed from the machine. However, there is a device whose use can permit an exception. To allow the use of non-JH RRR machines on certain hybrids and conventional systems as wellan add-on filter is available. It is designed to remove oil, dye, and other liquid or particulate contaminants from refrigerant during recharge.

This special filter is placed in series between the RRR machine and the vehicle. The filter eliminates the need to purchase separate equipment to recharge hybrid vehicles with electric motor driven compressors. You are commenting using your WordPress. You are commenting using your Google account.
